Ah, such a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. Cliche but true, and, if spoken with Rob M.'s Boston accent, quite funny as well.

Following the tender love story meets mafia movie that was last week's episode of "Survivor: All Stars," Thursday (April 8) night's show has more of a "Dangerous Liaisons" feel.

Day 25 dawns in the Chapera camp and the lovely Amber blithely strolls down to the beach having been spared at the Tribal Council due to her beloved Rob's intervention in exchange for the former Mogo Mogos, newly minted Chaperas getting rid of Jerri instead. Meanwhile, Lex angrily chops wood, feels guilty and swears to the camera that he's positive that when he needs to cash in with Rob that he'll be sure to deliver.

Not knowing what went down over with the Chaperas, the Mogo Mogos are grieving the perceived loss of their former tribe mate Amber. Jenna feels for Rob's sadness at having his potential soul mater ripped from him, while Tom takes the more philosophical, folksy view that Rob is like a kitten being weaned from its momma's teat -- it will take three days.

However, the machinations must go on. Even though he feels that he has a mark on his back and can't trust anyone, Rob is quick to made a silent alliance with Alicia -- promising that neither will ever write the other's name down.

The tribes gather for the reward challenge and the Mogo Mogos can barely contain their joy at seeing Amber.

Jeff, the host that all reality show hosts should aspire to, announces that this will be the first individual one, with the winner being spirited away for an overnight visit to a resort where their every whim will be catered and fulfilled. Plus, the chosen one gets to take two people with him/her, regardless of tribe affiliation.

Despite Rob's valiant attempt to win, Rupert takes the prize and after mumbling a few words about how he wishes he could take everyone, grabs Amber and Jenna to come along.

The reward itself is an extended bit of product placement, including Oil of Olay, Pantene and Colgate, plus lots of deodorant sniffing and motorized toothbrush abuse.

At dinner, a toast is raised to the Final Five -- Rupert, Amber, Jenna, Rob and Tom. This leaves Amber speechless since during her brief time with the new Chaperas she's promised Kathy and Lex that they will be joining her, Rob and Tom.

Everyone gathers for what they think is another reward challenge, but actually turns out to be the longed for merge. The "Survivors" eagerly drop their buffs and snag new blue ones. Jeff points out that they will be forsaking the old Chapera and Mogo Mogo camps for the trashed Saboga one. While the tides have washed away most of Rupert's ill-conceived shelter, timber remains as well as a toolbox and some salvageable pots. As a housewarming gift the group is given two Hawaiian slings, a tarp and paint for their new flag.

The Chaboga Mogos settle in and Lex goes running to Rob to ascertain that Rob plans on making good on his promise to take care of Lex if Lex took care of Amber.

Oh, silly Lex. Rob gleefully asks the omnipresent cameras if they really believed him when he made that lame pledge. Come on guys, it's a game.

Reunited, Rob tells Amber that they need to get rid of Lex as soon as possible. Amber thinks that Rupert and Jenna need to go. Amber also thinks that all of their double-dealing is going to come back to haunt them.

At the first individual immunity challenge, Jeff announces that two people -- one guy, one girl -- will be spared. Kathy beats Amber for the honor and Rob wins in the clutch against Lex.

In a truly inspired bit of karma coming home to roost, Rob sits down with Lex and tells him that while he really appreciates everything Lex did to keep Amber in the game, he has other obligations and won't be able to help Lex out after all.

Lex is flabbergasted and starts spewing on about friendship, etc. Uh, hello. Lex, correct us if we're wrong, but didn't you tell Ethan that this game has nothing to do with friendship? Not to mention your easy turning on Colby and Jerri when they no longer served your purposes.

Kathy, who is present for this whole betrayal, decides that it just isn't right and tells Lex that she will give him her immunity. He insists that she should keep it for herself. However, at Tribal Council, when Kathy says that after giving it thought she's decided to hold on to the necklace Lex looks like she just stabbed him.

Even though she retains her immune status, Kathy does join Lex in voting for Amber. Still, it's not enough, and Lex is cluelessly sent straight from the game to the first seat in the jury.
